“Do what ONLY YOU can do” … the concept comes from Robert J. Morgan’s book, Mastering Life Before It’s Too Late (my current read). An interesting concept for sure … something to ponder … some food for thought …
When adopted, this principle COULD dramatically alter the quality of our lives … with “do what ONLY YOU can do,” we’re granted permission to seek help, hire others, delegate tasks, or just let some things go UNDONE …
To adopt the principle, consider taking a few minutes to figure out what ONLY YOU can do … this is grounded in your purpose, of course … what you’re here for … your gifts … your talents … your passions … those things that “light you up” … the things that “set your soul on fire” …
So what ARE the things that ONLY YOU can do?
What ARE the things that ONLY I can do?
ONLY I can be the mother my children need.
ONLY I can be the wife my husband deserves.
ONLY I can write for MY blog.
ONLY I can take good care of me.
ONLY I can fulfill the responsibilities of my job.
ONLY I can show up as the friend I want to be.
And, let’s face it, there’s a few chores around the house and yard that ONLY I can do (or at least in the way that I want them done).
So what ARE the things that ONLY YOU can do?
Are YOU the ONLY ONE who can take care of an aging parent? Or is there someone who could help (at least some of the time OR with some of the things)?
Are YOU the ONLY ONE who can care for your home? Or would a housekeeper be in order?
Are YOU the ONLY ONE who can pack for a trip? Or are your kids old enough to help now?
Are YOU the ONLY ONE who can organize an event? Or are there people you could recruit for assistance?
Are YOU the ONLY ONE who can cook? Or could you and your spouse take turns?
The list goes on and on … when we give this notion some careful thought, we realize there is MUCH we can “release” … MUCH we can “assign” … MUCH we can “let go of” …
But for what?
Why?
Why is “less” so important anyway?
Because you’re here to do what ONLY YOU can do … you’re here to do what you’re amazing at … to use your gifts … your talents … you’re here to BE you … you’re here to DO you …
We are so LIMITED in what we can do and accomplish in a day … we are LIMITED with how much energy we have … how much time we have … our “resources” are definitely finite … let’s ensure we’re doing what ONLY WE can do …
Reach out today … ask for help … hire someone if you have to (and have the means) … enlist your family members … “give away” the unnecessary … delegate if you can …
There’s no shame in this … you’re making room for YOU to do what ONLY YOU can do … and you just might be helping someone else do what only they can do … you may be giving their lives purpose and meaning … you may be offering employment to someone who needs it …
So, go ahead, take a minute today to consider what ONLY YOU can do … then “give away” the rest …
