This summer, I had a custom t-shirt made … scrawled across it in pretty fonts are the words: “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire!”

I try to be careful with my words (though I do mess up at times) … I selected these for a reason … as a reminder to me and as a possible “nudge” for others should our paths happen to cross …
I have to ask …
Do you know what you’re here for? Why you were “knit together in your mother’s womb”? Why you were placed on this earth? Why you’re still here?
Do you know what your purpose is? What about your passion? Do you know what it is?
If you FULLY KNOW your purpose and your passion, you KNOW who you are … right down to the core …
You know your strengths, your weaknesses, your gifts, your talents, and your flaws …
You know what sparks a light in you … what sets your soul on fire …
Now KNOWING and DOING are two completely different things …
Maybe deep down you “know thyself,” but your days are absorbed with other things … other people’s interests … other people’s needs … housework … work demands … and the like …
Days and months (and maybe even years) pass and you’ve done NOTHING for you … NOTHING that aligns with who you truly are at the core … you’ve done NOTHING to fulfill your purpose here on earth … you’ve done NOTHING that lights you up …
But you were made for MORE …
You are MORE than the diapers you’re changing … the dishes you’re washing … the laundry you’re folding …
You are MORE than a crazed hockey mom … more than a store owner … more than a postal office clerk …
You are MORE than the state of your house … and the meals you prepare for your family …
You were made for MORE …
You were made to LIVE … to experience joy … to contribute … to share … to give … but not in the ways we’ve become accustomed to … you were made to LIVE and be ALIVE in your very own unique way … in a way that aligns with who YOU are … fundamentally … at the core … despite all the noise around you … all the pushings and shovings … all the screaming and yanking of arms … pulling you towards what’s supposedly important …
But none of that IS important …
What’s important is being YOU … being true to yourself (at the core of your being) … shedding away the excess … and living out in small and big ways EVERY DAY … YOUR purpose … YOUR passion …
YOU are here … in this time and in this place on this day …
That’s no accident …
*go ahead and read that again*
That’s no accident!
Why are you here? What were you made for? What fuels you? What sets your soul on fire?
And get real … you weren’t (only) made to be your kids’ mom … not to diminish the role … but you were here long before them … and you’ll hopefully be here long after they leave the nest … what were YOU made for? Take your kids out of the equation …
And, no, you weren’t made for cleaning the house either … sure, it’s nice to have a clean house … but this is just a distraction … it’s not your purpose (or your passion) in life … though creating beautiful spaces in your home or maintaining the energy in your home MAY be part of your purpose or passion …
Scrolling social media or shopping on Amazon for your family’s vitamins isn’t your purpose … keeping track of your finances isn’t your purpose in life either … nor is the 43 checklists you’ve made to make life simpler … these are all good things and they make life better, but they are NOT why you are here (in the grander scheme of things).
Not sure where to start when determining your purpose?
Has your spark been buried SO DEEP, you don’t even KNOW who you are anymore?
Do you forget what lights you up? What sets your soul on fire?
It’s time to dig …
You might have to go back to your childhood … what did you LOVE to do as a child? Especially consider your free time … how did you spend it? There may be clues here … children have a tendency to do what they want … what they love … without reservation.
What about as a teen? What did you do when you WEREN’T with your friends? When you weren’t out partying?
As a child, I spent my life OUTSIDE … in nature, in the bush, and playing in my dad’s old cars. We had forts and a playhouse … and a family greenhouse … I loved babies and had a million dolls to prove it … I cleaned and tidied … I liked to create order in chaos … I still LOVE the outdoors … I LOVE plants and flowers … and I still STRIVE to bring order to our lives …
As a teen, I wrote … I wrote my way through the good times and the bad times … mostly poetry … I would share it with people … and they seemed to like it … I also scrapbooked … I was the keeper … the memory preserver … I still cleaned and attempted to bring order to our world … often listening to old records or the latest “hit” (LOUDLY) … I set goals and practiced things I wanted to improve (like my typing speed) … I babysat … a TON … and came to love being with kids … I still do (and love) all of these things … I still write (obviously) … and I still share it with people (hoping to encourage or influence them in some way) … I still consider myself to be “the keeper” … I still set (and achieve) goals continuously … and I still LOVE music … I chose teaching as my vocation and I STILL love hanging out with kids, especially when we get to be creative together (we host extra kids often in our home) …
The fact of the matter is … we are who we are … FUNDAMENTALLY … and at our core …
We are who we are …
This is where our purpose (and our passion) comes from … the core …
Are YOU living PURPOSEFULLY? Are you living “on fire”?
Do you KNOW what you’re here for?
Are YOU a lost soul wandering or are you living intentionally within your purpose each day?
Get clear on why you’re here and what lights you up!
Your life will be richer …
And the people around you will reap the rewards too …
Sit down today and make some promises to yourself … promise to get back to who you were made to be … promise to do something (anything) every day that lights you up … plan the small things … plan the big things …
Let’s live … ON FIRE …
