This weekend was about vision …
This weekend was about hard work …
This weekend was about working together …
This weekend was about grit …
This weekend was about knowing EXACTLY what had to be done and doing it …
This weekend was about “coming along for the ride” … joining in …
This weekend was about hiring help when you need it …
This weekend was also about just finding something to do while those around you worked on their vision …
This weekend was about saying no …
This weekend was about sacrifice …
This weekend was about asking others to “step up” …
This weekend was about “lightening the load” … and making spaces “brighter” … prettier … more welcoming …
This weekend was about cleaning … so … much … cleaning …
This weekend was about serving …
This weekend, we transformed our Air BNB into a long-term rental property … essentially, this meant “moving out” of our “cottage” … removing “personal items” … emptying the kitchen … hauling all of the bedding home … taking beds apart … lifting and moving (heavy and awkward) couches … meeting (and making plans) with a contractor to do some work in the basement … and then cleaning … making sure everything was ready for our new (hopefully) long-term guest …
A transformation of our Air BNB meant we also needed to transform our basement at home (again) so we have room for our bi-weekly guests … this meant moving (and making) beds … purging and packing up toys … reconfiguring spaces … scrubbing the bathroom … and, of course, a few “fun” things too … like painting a couple of the basement walls a new, fresh colour and adding some of our creations to the walls …
Meanwhile, we just arrived home from a week-long camping trip … which meant these extra “special” projects were accompanied with boat loads of laundry and random stints of unpacking the camper (as we prepare for friends to come stay in it this week) … not to mention the “extra” yard work that seemed to “pile up” while we were gone … oh, and did I mention that I also did a quick living room rearrangement, as well?
Oh, and I fed people along the way … and listened to them … and encouraged them … I even did a tiny bit of homeschool planning for the year …
It was A LOT … all of it … but I (we) did it … I knew what had to get done and I did it … and I also snuck in a few “fun” extras … like rearranging (unnecessarily) and redecorating a few of our spaces …
The house in town was prepared for our long-term renter.
Our basement is (just about) prepared for our bi-weekly guests.
The laundry is complete.
Mowing and yard work is underway.
I’ve got a good start on the camper …
And the house is in decent condition …
Why am I sharing this?
Too often, I battle feelings of OVERWHELM and ANXIETY … I don’t know HOW I’ll ever actually DO (or accomplish) what’s set out before me …
But I do it …
ALL OF THE TIME …
Again and again and again, a “challenge” is set before me, and I rise to the challenge … I do what needs to be done … and I do a good job …
This weekend was an important reminder of my abilities …
My ability to create a vision.
My ability to make a plan.
My ability to meet a deadline.
My ability to do what I HAVE to do and what I WANT to do at the same time.
My ability to prioritize.
This weekend was an important reminder of WHAT to do when I truly want (or need) to accomplish something …
I have to create a vision.
I have to make a plan.
I have to set deadlines.
I have to do what I have to do, but I can also make time for (and include) things I WANT to do too.
I have to prioritize.
I share this today, because I trust that what I’ve learned (or perhaps relearned) this weekend will serve you too …
Envision.
Plan.
Set a deadline.
Make room for “fun.”
Prioritize.
You … can … do it!
